Leadership: What the Past Can Teach Us Today

When you look around the corporate landscape today, you see plenty of highly paid executives. These men and women are obviously all smart, hard working and powerful. But do they have the key leadership attributes of the greatest men and women in history?

Broadly educated. The greatest men and women in history were often self-educated. But they were also continuously self-educated. Those who were formally educated generally were not specialists in one area of field but were broadly and liberally educated in a number of areas from languages to sciences to history and literature. Today, more often than not, the women and men who lead the largest corporations in the world are engineers, accountants and MBAs as opposed to liberally educated people.

Singular focus. The greatest women and men in history often were singular in their focus whether it was political success, military victory, building a business empire or leading a great cause. These great people fought the odds and popular opinion over and over again to achieve success in their area of focus. Today’s executives often jump from venture to venture and corporation to corporation. They put a quick fix in place and move on to the next high paying challenge. While there are exceptions, this model had become increasingly common.

Selfless. Historically, some of the greatest women and men have put their cause or their mission far ahead of their personal wealth and stature. They were by definition “selfless” – they did whatever it took to achieve their … Continue Reading ...

Memory Strategies For Senior Citizens – What Technology Today Tells Us!

Memory loss, lack of brain clarity, or fear of memory loss is something experienced by just about every aging adult or senior citizen today!

Facing these obstacle personally can cause a lot of panic, anxiety and frustration.

Most aging adults think they are losing their ability to focus and remember because their brain is just simply getting old but this is not totally the case! In fact, contrary to popular belief, most of the beginning stages of brain fuzz symptoms and memory loss issues have more to do with a lack of use than a lack of youth!

As adults and seniors age, the demand to rely on their brain occurs less frequently. When their brain is not challenged it does not expand and grow; therefore their memory and ability to focus is not sharp! Their memories and focus becomes dull.

The good news is that technology today strongly indicates that we can have a dramatic effect on the capability of our brain as a result of how we treat it!

Brain exercise and utilization of proper brain techniques can sharpen the brain and even make it strong again! Regardless of age, proper brain function techniques can literally re-grow the brain. Most people don’t realize that with use, the brain does grow!

The brain is malleable. It’s almost like a piece of plastic that can be shaped!

With proper stimulation and healthy activity, the brain creates neuron connections. These connections can be compared to a tree that is growing more … Continue Reading ...

Sinclair Lewis’ The God Seeker Is Even More Relevant Today Than His It Can’t Happen Here

Columnist Alice B. Lloyd, writing for The Weekly Standard, recently published an article about the revived popularity of the novel It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis. That 1944 book about the fictional election of a President who comes to rule the United States as a dictator has been a best seller since Donald Trump took office.

Instead of praising the importance of that book, in her column Lloyd reveals that she described It Can’t Happen Here as one of the most disappointing efforts of Sinclair Lewis. She admits that the Minnesota author, as well as the first American writer to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, has at least four novels that are more relevant today than It Can’t Happen Here.

His classic about a small town real estate agent in the fictional Minnesota village of Zenith, a novel titled Babbitt after its main character, is the first listed by Lloyd in her column. Next up is Main Street, an early feminist account of the ambitious wife of a small town doctor.

Also included as a novel on Lloyd’s list is Dodsworth, which chronicles the troubled marriage and life adjustment of a retired automobile baron. The final novel centers on the hypocrisy of a traveling evangelist named Elmer Gantry, which was made into a popular motion picture starring Burt Lancaster as the title character.

The list omits an even better examination of religion in the United States, a novel called The God Seeker. This … Continue Reading ...

Trust – What Creates it & How Do You Maintain it Today?

Trust is the state of readiness for unguarded interaction with someone or something. Trust is built and maintained by many small actions over time. Trust is telling the truth, even when it is difficult, and being honest, authentic, and reliable in your dealings with customers and employees. Trust exists on many levels in an organization: with the direct manager, with the leadership, with the team and with the company.

Times are tough and you can’t afford not to have it today, but you will find that it is harder than ever to build and maintain. Employees are increasingly skeptical and daily exposés about ‘leaders’ who clearly are not trustworthy only makes it tougher.

Individuals must have a capacity for trust based on his/her experiences (with the current manager and company as well as with previous employers). The experiences we each have develop or diminish the capacity and willingness to risk trusting others. In the current business environment, there is a continuing decline of trust in companies and leadership overall. Employees watch the news, hear stories and wonder constantly if “it” (being laid off, denied a promotion or raise, having their project stopped, shutting down the company, etc.) is going to happen to them.

Individuals must perceive and believe in the ability of others they work with to perform competently at whatever is needed. During tough times, this belief in others tends to erode especially when communications are lacking concerning how changes impact the organization and success. Couple that with the … Continue Reading ...

MPB Today Review – Multilevel Marketing Business Opportunity Review

MPB Today is the latest online multilevel marketing business opportunity to hit the online and offline world. The company is touting to help individuals not only make money, but to also have the chance to “never pay for groceries or gas again.” Here is a simple review of the business and opportunity.

MPB Today is a multilevel marketing opportunity that is helping individuals create an online and offline business through the promotion of gift card for groceries and gasoline or simply choose a Wal-Mart gift card. To take advantage of this business each individual will need to sign up and purchase at least a $200 dollar voucher for groceries, gas or a gift card. The program itself does not offer any true instruction or training for marketing the system itself which will be a must.

The compensation structure is based on a “follow me” matrix compensation plan that although highly touted as the best compensation structure, is in reality based upon recruiting many individuals into your downline. This structure is very typical of the multilevel marketing opportunities many people come across each day. To truly find success with these types of compensation structures will take time and solid marketing effort on the member’s part, and at least some knowledge of Internet marketing.

For many looking for an online or multilevel marketing business opportunity to create a second income might find this to be complicated with MPB Today. With the old ways of network marketing beginning to fade faster than dinosaurs, … Continue Reading ...

Amy Waterman – Save My Marriage Today Review

Amy Waterman “Save My Marriage Today” is a comprehensive and proven book to save your marriage from divorce. It has certainly gained a lot of popularity online.

Actually I was a little bit skeptical about this book. I have read many relationship saving books and many are simply just rehashed material and don’t provide a step by step action plan on how to save your marriage.

Let’s take a look at my review about Amy Waterman’s book “Save My Marriage Today.”

1. What Makes This Book Different From The Rest Of The Pack?

That was the first question that I had in my mind when I saw her book. Just browse to Amazon.com and you will see hundreds of books that have been written in this subject.

And to be honest, the price of her book seemed too expensive compared with other similar books.

2. What I Found Later On

Later on after reading the book more thoroughly, I barely realized that her book is very different from other books that I have read so far on the saving marriage subject.

One thing I like about this book is unlike any conventional relationship technique, you don’t have to change yourself or give in to every of your partner’s wants.

Her techniques focus on resolving your anger and stress first so you can assess your marriage situation more carefully.

3. Easy To Follow Steps

She breakdowns her book in easy to follow step-by-step guide, so you won’t feel confuse with all … Continue Reading ...
