The city issued a permit July 23 for initial do the job toward changing the Jacksonville Ice & Sportsplex into the Jacksonville Icemen Igloo for the city’s skilled hockey team.

The Igloo, at 3605 Philips Freeway, is aspect of San Marco East, at Interstate 95 and Emerson Avenue. 

Bluewater Builders Inc. of Coral Springs is the contractor and Chiodini Architects of St. Louis, Missouri, is the architect for the believed $400,000 undertaking for demolition and interior structural perform.

Icemen President Bob Ohrablo said at a news convention March 30 that building will begin in August and acquire 10 to 12 months.

The renovation, excluding the $6 million to buy the assets, is envisioned to price $12.5 million.

Andy Kaufmann, majority owner of the Icemen, explained previously the Icemen Igloo will comprise two ice rinks, a athletics bar, protein shop, esports arena and the Jacksonville Sports activities Corridor of Fame.

The Igloo’s athletics bar will have floor-to-ceiling home windows so visitors can try to eat and consume with a watch of the rinks.

The sporting activities bar will have flooring-to-ceiling home windows so friends can consume and drink with a perspective of the rinks. 

The next ice rink will be built to start with so folks can carry on to skate at the facility throughout the renovations. 

“Since coming to Jacksonville in 2017, the Icemen have shown their commitment to this city time and time again,” Mayor Lenny Curry said at the news conference.
