The Jacksonville Transportation Authority board awarded two contracts Aug. 26 for the initially phase of its Final City Circulator software that will exchange the Downtown Skyway.

The board voted 5- to let JTA CEO Nat Ford to negotiate with Balfour Beatty V2R for design-build companies for the U2C’s 3-mile route alongside the Bay Street Innovation Corridor. 

The Balfour Beatty V2R is a consortium of 5 firms together with Excellent Development Co. Southeast Beep Inc. WGI, Inc. Stantec Consulting Products and services Inc. Miller Electric and Balfour Beatty. 

The Bay Road route is component of JTA’s $379 million to $400 million prepare to switch the elevated Skyway monorail system with a 10-mile automatic auto network.

In accordance to JTA officials, Balfour Beatty and its associates will oversee 60% structure of the innovation corridor, an at-quality services along Bay Avenue that will operate from Hogan Street to the Sports activities and Enjoyment District near TIAA Financial institution Subject, 121 Economical Field and VyStar Veterans Memorial Spot.

In accordance to board files, Balfour Beatty VR2 was the only bidder.

The board also voted unanimously to negotiate an estimated $2 million deal with England-Thims & Miller for development, engineering and inspection for the 1st phase of the project.

Board member Nicole Padgett was absent Aug. 26 for the vote.

Authority Vice President of Automation Bernard Schmidt claimed JTA executives will return to the board in the coming months with a negotiated deal and refined structure.
