Jacksonville defeated West Carteret 48-7 on Friday night to improve to 3-0.

Quarterback Josh Benton ran for 172 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries and threw for another score in the Cardinals’ home win over the Patriots.

Benton had a 61-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give Jacksonville a 7-0 lead, had a 49-yard scoring run that extended the Cardinals’ lead to 20-7 and added a 5-yard touchdown run with 1:34 left in the second quarter to make it 27-7.

Christian Constant added 87 yards on six carries, scoring on runs of 7 and 4 yards while Damari Gnatt added a 7-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter. Curtez Echols Jr., added 62 yards rushing on seven carries while Tristan Shapiro had four receptions for 87 yards for Jacksonville.

West Carteret’s score came Jamarion Montford threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Aidan Cooper with 5:52 left in the second quarter to bring the Patriots to within 14-7.

Jacksonville (3-0) kicks off Big Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play next week at J.H. Rose. West Carteret (1-2), which topped Jacksonville 24-19 last season, plays host to East Carteret next week.
