Television and Children – How TV Affects Your Child

There is an ongoing debate about the effects of television on children. Some believe that TV has a lot to offer. It can educate, stimulate and entertain. If parents are discerning about what their child watches and how much they watch, there is nothing too harmful about TV. On the other hand, some experts say that any children under two should not watch any television. They feel that it hinders a child’s growth and development in many ways.

So before you sit your kids down in front of your huge plasma TV, have a think about what they are watching and how long they are watching. To get a look at both sides of the debate, lets break this discussion down in to the positive and negative effects of television on young viewers.

Positive:

  • Children can learn about numbers, letters, colours and shapes by watching quality educational programmes.
  • Children can learn about social interaction and manners on good quality dramatic and educational programmes.
  • For many parents of young children, a day at home is many hours to fill. Sometimes a familiar or appropriate movie or programme can provide a relaxing moment both child and parent.
  • Children enjoy the familiarity of a movie or show they have watched many times as much as they love to read the same book again and again.
  • Many movies and shows have a moral tale, and this can sometimes provide a helpful way for parents to introduce moral themes and ideas into their children’s lives.
  • Quite

Your Daily Habits

Have you ever stopped to examine where you are in life and wondered how you got to where you are? I believe all of us have that experience every now and again.

So, the question that we ask ourselves is “How did I get here?”

Everything we do in life is governed by habits. Getting out of bed, praying or meditating, brushing our teeth, bathing, getting dressed, driving to work, reading a book or watching tv; these are all governed by habits. We have chosen to fill our daily lives with these certain habits. Whether these habits serve or not is a completely different story.

When I think about many of the habits I have, I know many of them do not serve me in a way I like. Replacing them with a different habit, though, is another topic.

Our daily habits will literally make us or break us. If we look at star athletes, what do they do? They have a certain routine they go through every day that leads them to success. They get up at a certain time. They exercise at a certain time. They eat certain foods at a certain time. All of this is for a purpose – to create success in their life.

When we look at a successful businessperson, we find the same thing applied a little differently. This person is doing certain things in a certain order on purpose: to create success.

This principle can be applied in any area of life. … Continue Reading ...

Controlling Weather Trends

As we watch the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane season come to a close Mother Nature has taught us another lesson. Take nothing for granted and we are now listening loud and clear. Indeed, such extreme weather has pushed scientist to develop better systems to predict and monitor the weather. In doing so we have learned enough now to use this knowledge to control it.

Controlling the weather patterns will require some skill, some talent, large collected databases, supercomputer number crunching and lots of trial and error. We will also need to let lose of some of the current mathematics we use to track weather in trade for multi-stacked equational computational analysis or a different type of math based on a new type of science. Which may lead us to the grand unification we seek.

As scientists and researchers will learn there will be places where weather is easily studied and relatively easily controllable using very little energy and using the actual wind currents with minor changes in certain situations, which are made possible by the terrain itself.

We are so close to controlling the weather that we may in fact only have one or two more significant Hurricane Seasons to deal with, before we figure out how to stop these massive storms. Some are already discussing attacking them as they form or figuring out ways to steer them to uninhabited or low-density population shorelines to protect from major catastrophes like Super Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Think on this and the future … Continue Reading ...

Daily Car Hire Insurance

There are times, of course, when you need to hire a car by the day – perhaps it that is as long as you might need it, or maybe your plans are sufficiently flexible that your not yet sure just how long you will be needing the vehicle. To accompany such an arrangement, the rental company will offer the customer a daily car hire insurance rate.

At its most basic, this is most likely to include any third party cover required by law in the country in which you will be driving, plus a Collision Damage Waiver and theft cover, so that you are protected by the necessary elements of insurance against loss or damage to the rented vehicle. As with the standard forms of insurance included in most companies’ rental prices, however, an excess is incorporated into the cover, so that the hirer him or herself continues to shoulder a hefty first proportion of any bill for repairs. In the UK, for example, this excess is typically £600, but £1,000 is not at all uncommon.

Since the daily rental is only a fraction of this amount, therefore, the hirer could stand to foot a bill for any loss or damage to the vehicle that is many times the cost of the car itself. Added to this is the fact that most Collision Damage Waiver provisions do not include damage to the roof, underside, tyres or glass windows of the vehicle and necessary repairs to any of these would need … Continue Reading ...
