The international airport in Kabul was targeted by rockets early Monday morning local time as the deadline for U.S. forces to leave Afghanistan is nearing.

On Monday morning local time, the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul was the target of a rocket attack. President Biden was briefed on the attack by National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Chief of Staff Ron Klain, the White House said.

The military hasn’t said if anyone was injured in the attack.

Some news outlets reported the rockets had been intercepted by a U.S. counter missile system. The administration’s statement, however, made no mention of this.

Evacuation operations at Kabul’s airport continued uninterrupted and there were no changes to efforts to protect on-the-ground forces, the White House said.

It’s unclear who is responsible for the rocket attack.

The U.S. is tracking unique threats from ISIS in opposition to Kabul’s airport and from People and other people attempting to leave Afghanistan, two protection officers reported Saturday.

The military services is working on alternate means to get People in america, Afghans and third-nation nationals safely and securely to the airport. “We are executing an alternate route,” a protection formal explained.

Previously, it was suggested that American citizens attempting to leave should not to journey to Kabul’s airport because of “prospective stability threats” as senior Taliban leaders arrived in the metropolis to choose a new authorities.

“We are advising U.S. citizens to avoid touring to the airport and to avoid airport gates at this time except if you get unique guidelines from a U.S. federal government representative to do so,” the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan claimed in a statement Saturday.

The information was issued “since of prospective safety threats,” the statement mentioned, despite the fact that it did not elaborate on what these threats were. “We will contact registered U.S. citizens as the protection condition changes to provide further guidelines,” the statement added.

It came significantly less than than 24 hours following President Joe Biden vowed to get Americans home and assist Afghans who’d assisted U.S. forces in the state and many others who might be in hazard.
